Partnerships That Drive Our Success
Grassland Organics works closely with many community organizations each year in order to achieve our mission. At the Stswékstem Engineered Waste Management Facility, we know we will be more successful when we partner with others in order to protect our local environment and the resources in the Kamloops communities near the Facility.
Our partnerships include:
Our Partnership With Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc
Grassland Organics operates on the traditional and unceded territory of Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc, and we value the relationship we have built over the years that is based on respect, collaboration, and shared environmental stewardship. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to responsible land use and long-term sustainability. We recognize the importance of Indigenous knowledge and perspectives in waste reduction and environmental care. We believe that working together supports positive outcomes for the land, the community, and future generations.
Collaboration With City of Kamloops Officials
Grassland Organics works closely with officials at the City of Kamloops, to understand and align the availability for diverting local waste and the achievement of the City’s sustainability goals. Our partnership is helping to provide all residents and businesses with reliable organics processing solutions. By working together, we are contributing to reducing landfill use and supporting a cleaner environment from Kamloops to Sun Peaks. Our ongoing collaboration reflects a shared commitment to expanding responsible waste management in the future.
Strategic Planning With The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD)
Our partnership with officials at the Thompson-Nicola Regional District office is critically important as regional waste management plans evolve that will help us all achieve long-term environmental objectives. We believe that collaborating with TNRD will ensure our Facility is aligned with the Regional strategies and regulatory frameworks. Together, we share a common interest in finding sustainable waste handling solutions that will benefit all residents in the Thompson-Nicola area.
Program Funding From The Government of Canada
Grassland Organics works with the Federal Government and Indigenous Services Canada to promote environmental responsibility and sustainable infrastructure in First Nation communities. Our partnership has resulted in critically important funding to expand overall waste management capacity of the Kamloops region, which in turn is helping Canada with its goals for emissions reductions and strengthening local economies.
Membership In The Compost Council of Canada
As a member of the Compost Council of Canada, the Grassland Organics team stays updated and aligned with Canadian federal and provincial composting standards and research. This partnership helps us educate our Kamloops community, work together on advocacy for composting, and advance the recycling of organic material across Canada. Our membership gives us access to professionals who can provide advice and expertise to ensure our facility operates using proven composting methods that protect soil and environmental health. Being part of this network reinforces our role as a trusted organics processor across the Thompson-Nicola region.
Working Closely With The Indigenous Zero Waste Advisory Group (IZWTAG)
Grassland Organics works alongside the Indigenous Zero Waste Advisory Group to support Indigenous-led approaches to waste reduction and circular economy initiatives in the Thompson-Nicola region. This partnership continues to help us strengthen our best practices around diversion, composting, and resource recovery. We are grateful to IZWTAG for providing valuable guidance rooted in Indigenous values of stewardship and sustainability. Their insight supports our efforts to minimize waste and protect the environment in and around Kamloops.
